First Born Among Many – Hebrews 2:11

In Genesis 11 we read about the Tower of Babel and the human attempt to reach to heaven and to make a name for themselves (Genesis 11:3-4). This is when God came and confused their language. From before the foundation of the world God already had a perfect plan, the only way for us to get back in a relationship with God would have to be through His Son Jesus Christ.

This is referred as the mystery of the ages (Romans 16:25; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:26). Only God would be able to create the perfect way of redemption for His creation, and the perfect way could only be provided and executed by God Himself.

Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). Jesus was born as a human being to open the door for us to be born again by the Spirit. And the only way for us to find this relationship with the Father is through Him. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me (John 14:6).

We can worship and be thankful not only for our adoptions as sons of God, but also for the fact that we are in a process of becoming, growing up, and maturing as sons of the Father. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren (Romans 8:29). And even though we are still in a process of becoming He is not ashamed of calling us His brethren. For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren (Hebrews 2:11).
