Can These Bones Live?

For over a week I have been living on the story of the “Vision of the Valley of Dry Bones” in Ezekiel 37:1-14. And if you don’t know this story I encourage you to read it and see the great significance it has today.

Today I read this story one more time and instead of applying it to the formation of this mighty army I started thinking of the dry bones as things in our own lives, like dreams, hopes, visions, and promises that a lot of times seem to die. We look at those old dreams they look like a bunch of dry, lifeless bones.

As we get to the scripture we see that the Lord asked the prophet if those bones could live.

He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord GOD, You know.” (Ezekiel 37:3, NAS)

A lot of times we tend to look at our circumstances and lives as a valley of dry bones, but we see that in this vision Ezekiel heard a Word from the Lord to prophesy over those bones. As he was obedient to prophesy, repeating the Words he had heard, the bones came together and with one step after the other life was brought back and they became a great army.

Again He said to me, “Prophesy over these bones and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.’”  (Ezekiel 37:4, NAS)

So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to its bone.  (Ezekiel 37:7, NAS)

What looks impossible for us is not impossible for God, and if we can simply have faith in the Word, and be obedient to repeat the Word with faith, I believe that the hopes, dreams and promises that look like have fallen to the ground can be restored to life. Thank You, Lord, for your faithfulness!
