In a recent message Daniel Oliveira brought to us at Hale O Nā Kāula Church, he talked about how we should be presenting ourselves to the Father with the gifts we have and allow Him to multiply them. A particular example Daniel used that really made sense to me was the story of the little boy who came to Jesus with only five loaves of bread and two fish and from that over five thousand people were able to eat and be satisfied. (John 6:1-15)
We are like that little boy. Like he approached the Lord with his insufficient lunch, we come and give ourselves to the Father just as we are: imperfect earthen vessels, but open and boldly believing His Word. And the boy probably wasn’t even able to pack that lunch himself, most likely his mom prepared it for him. I see that our spiritual mothers and fathers are imparting to us a Living Word, helping us and packing a lunch for us.
So we, like that boy, do not come with what we have trying to impress the Father; He is the one who wants to impress us with what He can do through us and in us. And we stay open to those who are spiritual mothers and fathers to us because they are equipping us with something that God will take and multiply.
Hearing the message Daniel spoke gave me a sense that I must not despise the preparation and small beginnings, even if all I have is five loaves of bread and 2 little fish. It is time to bring my simple gifts to the Lord and trust the Father will multiply them beyond what I can understand. This I do by His grace!
