The Feast of Pentecost – the Feast of the Harvest

After the first Passover in Egypt the people of Israel camped in the desert, a time where God made a covenant with the people of Israel (Deuteronomy 4:12-14). When God gave Moses the law, one of the feasts He instructed them to celebrate was known as the Feast of Weeks (Leviticus 23:15-17). Immediately following the Passover, the priest was to wave before the Lord a sheaf of grain representing the offering of the first fruits of the harvest (Leviticus 23:10). Then they would count fifty days until the Feast of Weeks, where they would wave two loaves of bread before the Lord, representing the harvested grain after being refined and baked, the first fruits of the wheat harvest. Tradition holds that this was also the time when Moses went up to Mount Sinai to receive the tablets of the Law.

The waving of the sheaf of grain is a representation of Christ as the first fruit of Passover; the waving of the two loaves of bread during the Feast of Weeks or Shavuot represents those that were together on the day of Pentecost, receiving the Holy Spirit, the harvest of the first fruits. These two historical events are also prophetic, pointing to a greater harvest of the Body of Christ (James 5:7-8).

Every year we follow the Biblical calendar in faith, expecting that a new level of understanding and experience will be poured upon us. Please join us if you are interested in worshiping with us and learning more about this feast time.
