We are being led to move through relationships. God allowed Elijah to live in isolation but then required him to find someone that would be his provision. There will be no growth and maturity without the body coming together with every joint supplying what they have received and opening up to receive from others also (Ephesians 4:11-16). We can relate to what God is doing in our lives if we reflect on Elijah’s experience in 1 Kings 17:1-16.
Elijah prophesied that there would be a drought and it affected everyone, including himself. However, he followed God’s instructions and was given temporary sustenance by the brook Cherith. Our sustenance will always be in the place where God directs us to go. Eventually the brook dried up and God led Elijah to a widow who was about to starve. The prophet would have preferred to do his own miracle and continue his life in independence, but God required oneness.
The answer for you is dependent on someone else. We have to go out and find our provision for the next phase in our walk with God. Not even the prophet could solve his own problems. Elijah was obedient to God and found the widow. The widow was obedient to Elijah and brought him food before making a meal for herself and her son. Both were then sustained by God’s miracle provision. “The bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke through Elijah” (1 Kings 17:16). Neither of them had the answers that they needed in themselves, but God allowed them to be each other’s answer. The miracle provision was only possible because of the relationship of interdependence based on the leading of the Lord.
Never despise the source of God’s blessings. When you notice that things are not happening or seem to be drying up, ask Him to remind you of the instructions He gave for your next blessing.
