The Meaning of the Celebration of Tabernacles

The period of the Feast of Tabernacles is very rich and deep in spiritual meaning for us. It is a statute that Moses received from the Lord in the wilderness.

“Let them construct a sanctuary for Me, that I may dwell among them.” (Exodus 25:8, NAS)

We understand that from the beginning it was God’s plan to have a Tabernacle so that He could abide with His people.

“Moreover, I will make My dwelling among you, and My soul will not reject you. I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.” (Leviticus 26:11–12, NAS)

And that is exactly what happened, we read in the Old Testament of the construction of the Tabernacle and how the Glory of God was visible all the time. But we also see another fulfillment of Tabernacles in Jesus Christ:

“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14, NAS)

When it says “dwelt among us” it is referring to the time of Tabernacles, when God’s presence is amidst His people. There is also another step:

Jesus replied, “All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.” (John 14:23, NLT)

Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16, NAS)

During this time we remember and teach our kids about the histories of the Bible, but we also look for the greater things that are still to be fulfilled during the Feast of Tabernacles.
