Our family has lived in the United States for the past ten years and I have to say that Thanksgiving has become my absolute favorite holiday! What a brilliant idea to have a national day to give thanks. Thankfulness is such an important trait to have and to teach our children.
We read often in the scriptures about the importance of being thankful. I would like to focus this week on this passage from Ephesians 5:20 – “Always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father.”
I love this reminder to be thankful for all things, yes, even the difficulties we face. If we are not thankful, the tendency is for us to become bitter. A thankful heart towards God is a heart that trusts.
Let’s practice this verse from Ephesians in our gatherings this week, let’s have open hearts to trust the Father, let’s pray before we receive our family and friends over for our thanksgiving meals or before we go to someone’s home. A sincere prayer to God that our hearts be open, that our eyes can see God moving in the midst of whatever we may be going through right now. There are difficult things happening all around us, but no matter what, our hearts are thankful to God for all things.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving.
