It may be hard to understand the way that God executes His plans. When Jesus Christ was born, His parents could not find a proper place for His birth. According to our way of thinking, a manger and a simple stable would not be the right place for the Son of God to be born. I think that there is a lesson that we can learn from this story.
Christ promised His disciples that He would come back and take His abode with them (John 14:23). The apostle Paul understood that Christ was also coming forth in the hearts of people. He dedicated his life to teach and promote the bringing forth of Christ in the heart of every believer. “My children, with whom I am again in labor until Christ is formed in you” (Galatians 4:19). Today, Christ is being born again in us. Sometimes we may look at ourselves and see only a simple stable and manger, not ready to be the place where Christ is being formed. We may feel like Mary, “How can this be?” (Luke 1:34) We may feel unprepared and not worthy. But our response must be the same as her response. “And Mary said, ‘Behold, the bondslave of the Lord; be it done to me according to your word.’” (Luke 1:38a).
