Purim!

Don’t you love stories with happy endings? When the evil plot turns on its head, there is an amazing last minute deliverance and a threat is reversed that brings so much joy to all the people? If you do, you should definitely read the book of Esther in the Bible. Get a good translation like the NASB and enjoy yourself!

I love to celebrate Purim every year! It is so meaningful and relevant to Jewish people and also to Christians. Had the evil Haman, the Agagite, succeeded in his plot to exterminate all the Jews, the lineage of Jesus would have been compromised and God’s beloved people would have ceased to exist. Of course, our brave queen Esther would have none of that.

I think we can experience such depth of happiness and relief because the situations we find ourselves in are also so deeply scary or sad. I love the example we see in this story. Queen Esther had faith, courage and she took action, but not before she fasted and prayed to God.

We can never be sure of the outcome of the choices we have to make, but know we can always trust God above all circumstances.

We will be celebrating this biblical feast on Friday, March 2nd from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Wear a costume, bring a dish to share and come join us at 262 Anuhea Place.
