We are approaching the period of the Feast of Tabernacles; it starts with the Feast of Trumpets and Rosh Hashanah on September 10th. That same day begins the Ten Days of Repentance. On September 19th, we celebrate the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). The Feast of Tabernacles itself (Succoth) starts on September 24th and ends on September 30th. As a church family, we always look forward to the celebration of the feasts that are outlined in Leviticus 23. Tabernacles is a feast of remembrance of the time that God dwelt in the center of the camp with the Israelites during their journey through the wilderness; as Christians we remember that Christ came as our redeemer and dwelt among us (John 1:14).
For Christians, the celebration of the Biblical Feasts are not limited to celebrating what happened before, in reality there are aspects of the feasts that are still waiting for their final fulfillment. When we celebrate the Feasts, we are studying and exercising our faith and expectation for what God is doing today in preparation for the return of the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that there are truths hidden in plain sight in the Scriptures, but we also know that as we search for more revelation, the Holy Spirit opens the Scriptures to us (Amos 3:7; Proverbs 25:2).
During this whole season we try to leave the normalcy of our lives and remember the period in which Israel lived in the wilderness, beholding the presence of God daily. This is the expression of our expectation for the Kingdom of God and to a life in His presence. “‘I will also walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people” (Leviticus 26:12).
During this month of celebration we have different activities and special services planned. We try to get out of the normal routines as an expression of our anticipation for changes in our lives and being more aware of God’s presence.
