I have had an iPod for more than two years. When I got it, it was the latest model and the coolest iPod available. Recently, my wife Debbie got an iPod with the same capacity, but pretty soon she was not only listening to the songs or watching videos, she was also playing games! I joked with her, “Do you want to trade iPods?” because I did not have games on mine.
But then, after really looking through my iPod, I found out that I had the same games on mine the whole time!
I think the same thing happens with us in experiencing our salvation and the provision from the Lord Jesus; sometimes we don’t use the provisions of the Lord because we don’t know they are there. But God has given us everything pertaining to life and godliness!
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. (2 Peter 1:2–3, NASB95)
I don’t want to do with the spiritual gifts what I did with my iPod; I want to be hungry enough to dive into everything that belongs to me! That’s why studying the Word of God is so important for us. It is the manual that will teach us how to discover everything that has already been given to us in the miracle of the resurrected Christ.
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, (Ephesians 1:18, NASB95)
Lord, open the eyes of our hearts to see what You’ve made available for us!
