Hale O Nā Kāula Church celebrated the Feast of Pentecost last week. As we did, it was interesting to notice that the factor that triggered the events on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2 was their oneness, first of all because of their obedience to what Jesus told them.
As I started to read about the day of Pentecost in the book of Acts, one thing that really stood out to me was their oneness. That led me to read about the Tower of Babel, where men decided to build a name for themselves at a time when all spoke the same language. “The Lord said, ‘Behold, they are one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them.’” (Genesis 11:6, NASB95)
When there is oneness, nothing is impossible! But their oneness surrounding the Tower of Babel was not based on God, so He came to confuse their languages and scatter them on the face of the earth.
In the book of Acts, we see the oneness started because of their relationship with Jesus and their obedience to His words. Out of that, a miraculous level of communication happened where by the Holy Spirit they were able to communicate without the language barrier that was initiated back in Genesis 11:1-9.
“Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language. They were amazed and astonished, saying, “Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? “And how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born? ” (Acts 2:5–8, NASB95)
We must believe that out of our obedience to the Word and because we are committed to our relationships, even our ability to communicate will reach a miracle level of oneness.
