A Season of Change

I was sitting in a meeting recently when I heard these words: “We are in a season of change. Learn how to give away what you have.” These words confronted me in a positive way and I immediately remembered the words of Christ, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35. I was curious to know specifically what it is that we have to give away.

The apostle Paul says he declared all things to the people that would be profitable to them. He shared his love for Christ, he loved the people. Look at this verse: “In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He himself said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”” Acts 20:35

I was so struck by these words and I came to the point of declaring for myself a season of change. In the next few months we will be celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas, these are great opportunities to give away of ourselves. I personally love this time of year, but it can be so consuming and distracting. However, if we set our focus right, it can be a time of change and growth.

Every year I like to join in charity and find ways to give monetary help among other needs, and that is a wonderful way to help. However I am driven to help people that will cross my path in a different way. I trust the Holy Spirit will move me from my comfort zone to give a kind word, say a prayer, or invite someone to dinner during this Holiday season and give away of the love I have freely received.

I have often thought that it is easier to write a check to a charitable institution and feel good about myself than to find a way to express forgiveness to someone close to me or to say I am sorry and make amends with someone I may have hurt. I want to give away true unconditional love this year! Then I will just make a habit of it.

I invite you to join me in finding creative ways to express His love in our families, neighborhoods, schools, and work place.  Let us not lose our focus this holiday season and take every opportunity to give of the love we have received. Let us find the right expression for each occasion. Be it an act of kindness, a thank you card, a prayer someone may need, a hug or anything else that we are inspired to do. Share your gift.
