“So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).
Sometimes you declare your independence before you have it. You cry for freedom because you don’t heave it. But the day comes where you decide to walk away from the old ways of thinking and from the way that people know your or think about you.
In Jesus Christ we can actually change and become something new, a new creature. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Everyone struggles to be free and it is in Christ, through His forgiveness, that we find our freedom to walk away from the past. “Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, who are called “Uncircumcision” by the so-called “Circumcision,” which is performed in the flesh by human hands— remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:11–13).
