We Are Temples of the Holy Spirit

“Thus says the LORD, “Heaven is My throne and the earth is My footstool. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest? “For My hand made all these things, Thus all these things came into being,” declares the LORD. “But to this one I will look, To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word” (Isaiah 66:1–2).

We sometimes think that when we feel good and everything is going right, we can finally be worthy of approaching our Father, but we can never think that we are worthy because of the things we can do. Actually, a lot of times it is when we are broken and unable to control things around us that we come to realize that God has been waiting for a broken and contrite heart, where He can finally come in.

It is hard for our human mind to realize that we cannot build a house for God, that He does not really need our sacrifices, but He is looking for us to learn to depend on Him. “For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it; You are not pleased with burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise” (Psalm 51:16–17).
