God’s Tool Box

I am starting a class at Shiloh University called Spiritual Formation. It will be a very interesting process because I am sure I will experience a lot of new things in my devotional life, and it will also bring some current spiritual experiences to a new level. Essentially, this class is about the spiritual “tools” that bring us into a closer relationship with God.

I am not a construction worker but I have always loved tools. If I could, I would have all the tools I could afford. But then the important question is, would I know how to use the tools?

It is fun to watch a professional perform his job, especially when he uses the perfect tool for each specific job. Sometimes the tools even look the same, but are used in different situations.

The same thing applies to our walk with God. Sometimes we tend to solve all the problems with a few tools we are most familiar with; but there comes a time when it is necessary to start using other specific tools. God’s tool box has all the tools we need, but we need to learn how and when to use each tool we have.

This is what the Spiritual Formation class is all about. It is time to dive into God’s tool box and learn how to build and create, how to see things change in our lives with the tools that we have freely received from our Father.

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. (2 Peter 1:3, NLT)
